Kuwait Bans Barbie Movie, Likely to be banned in Lebanon for Promoting Homosexuality

Kuwait imposed a ban on the Barbie movie, reported The Hollywood Reporter. It was earlier banned in Vietnam.

According to reports, the chairman of the film censorship committee of Kuwait, Lafi Al-Subaie accused the film of “carrying ideas that encourage unacceptable behaviour and distort society’s values.”

‘Barbie’ is also facing a similar ban order in Lebanon.

Lebanon’s culture minister Mohammad Mortada alleged that Barbie “promotes homosexuality” and “contradicts values of faith and morality,” by diminishing the importance of the family unit.

‘Barbie’, strarring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in the lead hit the theatres on July 21. It has become one of the highest-grossing films of 2023. Its director Greta made history by becoming the first movie directed solely by a woman to register a box-office gross of over USD 1 billion.
