Liquor Shop Fined Rs 20 Lakh for Taking Rs 10 More than MRP

Bhubaneswar: A consumer court slapped a hefty fine of Rs 20 lakh on an India Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) off-shop at Ramdaspur under Cuttack’s Barang police station limits for selling liquor bottles at a price more than the printed Maximum Retail Price (MRP).

The said liquor shop was sealed up indefinitely by the excise department.

A consumer from the CDA area in Cuttack had filed a petition before a consumer court in Cuttack alleging that the said liquor shop was charging Rs 10 more than the MRP.

After going through the evidence, the consumer court slapped a fine of Rs 20 lakh on the liquor shop. Added to it, the state excise department also sealed the liquor off-shop for an indefinite period.

This liquor shop was located at Godisahi under Barang police station limits.
