Maharashtra Ex-CM Ashok Chavan Joins BJP A Day After Leaving Congress

Mumbai: Former Maharashtra CM Ashok Chavan joined the the BJP on Tuesday. He had resigned from the Congress on Monday.

Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis welcomed him to the saffron party saying, “Chavan told me that he wanted to join Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s work of development for the people. He said he did not want any plum post.”

After joining the BJP, Ashok Chavan said, “It is an unconditional move without asking for any post. It is a new innings for me after serving in politics for 38 years.”

After Milind Deora and MLA Baba Siddique, Chavan was the third big departure from the Maharashtra Congress.

According to sources, Ashok Chavan is expected to get a Rajya Sabha ticket from the BJP and may file his nomination on Wednesday. The last date for filing of nomination is February 15. The elections are scheduled to take place on February 27.
