Nurse Allegedly Molested By Patient at Govt Hospital in West Bengal; Accused Arrested

Kolkata: A man was arrested on Saturday for allegedly molesting an on-duty nurse at a government hospital in Birbhum district, West Bengal. The incident took place while the nurse was administering a saline drip to the patient, who had been brought to the hospital on a stretcher due to high fever.

In her complaint to the police, the nurse stated that the patient not only touched her inappropriately but also used offensive language during the incident. The hospital authorities promptly contacted the police, leading to the immediate arrest of the accused. The incident has been reported to Ilambazar Police Station, where an FIR has been lodged, and an investigation is currently underway.

Dr Masidul Hasan, who was on duty at the time, shared that the patient, identified as Abbas Uddin from Chotochak village, began misbehaving upon arrival at around 8:30 PM. Despite requests for cooperation from his family, the patient continued his inappropriate behaviour, resulting in the molestation of the nurse. Dr Hasan added that if no action is taken, the hospital staff may consider staging a cease-work protest.

This incident comes on the heels of the recent horrific rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. The case, now under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation, has drawn significant criticism towards the Kolkata Police and hospital administration for their handling of the situation.
