Man Gets Life Imprisonment for Killing Beggar Woman & Her Son in Keonjhar

Keonjhar: A man named Debasish Das was convicted by a court in Odisha’s Keonjhar and sentenced to life imprisonment for murder of a woman and her son.

The convict, Debasish Das is a resident of Kaligaon under Nandipada police station limits in the Keonjhar. In September 2020, he beat a woman and her son to death when they failed to pay up the money he had demanded from them. Both victims were beggars. After beating them to death, Debasish burnt down their bodies.

The Additional District Sessions Judge in Keonjhar examined 18 witnesses and other evidence in the case, to convict Debasish in the case and sentenced him to life imprisonment under Section 302 of the IPC. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on him. In case of default in payment of the fine, he has to undergo imprisonment for one more year.

The court also sentenced the convict to two years of imprisonment and imposed with Rs 2,000 fine under Section 379 of the IPC and six years of imprisonment and a penalty of Rs 10,000 under Section 436 of the IPC. All the sentences will run concurrently, the court ruled.
