Man Jumps Into Lion Enclosure In Zoo For Selfie, Mauled To Death

Tirupati: A man was mauled to death by a big cat when he jumped into a lion enclosure at Tirupati Zoo to take a selfie with the lion on Thursday afternoon.

According to the authorities of the Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park, the deceased was Prahlad Gujjar (38) from Alwar in Rajasthan.

Gujjar ignored the zoo caretaker’s warning and entered the enclosure after getting into an unauthorised section that was not open to the public. He climbed an over 25-feet-high wall to jump into the enclosure.

Gujjar was mauled to death by a lion named Dongalpur. A police case has been registered and a post-mortem is being conducted. An investigation is on to find out whether Gujjar was in an inebriated state when he jumped into the lion enclosure of the zoo.

The Tirupati Zoo has three lions – Kumar, Sundari and Dongalpur. After this incident, Dongalpur has been confined in a cage for observation.
