Man Trying to Jump Into Mahanadi to End Life Rescued in Cuttack

Cuttack: A man from Bhubaneswar attempting to jump into the Mahanadi river to commit suicide was rescued by Fire Services personnel in the Banki area of Cuttack on Friday.

The rescued man was identified as Sheikh Jahangir of the Patrapada area in Bhubaneswar. Following a family dispute, he had reached the Jatamundia bridge over the Mahanadi river in the Banki area by his bike on Thursday night to commit suicide.

After parking his motorcycle on the bridge, he had got down to the bottom portion of a pillar of the bridge. But for some reason, he could not garner the courage to jump into the flowing water and also could not escape out of the place.

Some locals found him stuck at the base of the pillar of the bridge and informed the police. A team of Fire Services personnel reached the spot and rescued the man after an effort of over one hour.
