Manipur CM Considering Death Sentence for Culprits, Who Gang Raped & Paraded Women Naked

Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh raised strong concerns over the video of two women being paraded naked that went viral on social media on Wednesday. CM Biren Singh said the government was considering capital punishment for the perpetrators.

One key accused involved in the incident was arrested on Thursday.

The Supreme Court took a suo moto cognizance of the video and asked for action taken reports from the Central and Manipur governments.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed the incident as “shameful for any decent society”.

A video showed two women of the Kuki-Zomi community being paraded naked by a mob. The incident is said to have happened on May 4. The victims were paraded naked and later, gang-raped.
