Protestors Storm in, Set Fire to Swedish Embassy in Baghdad to Protest Quran Burning

Hundreds of protesters stormed into the Swedish embassy in central Baghdad of Iraq on Thursday morning and allegedly set it on fire. This violent protest was against the expected burning of a Quran in Sweden.

The violent protestors jumped over the walls of the Swedish embassy to enter its premises.

According to a Swedish Foreign Ministry statement, all Baghdad embassy staffs were safe. The Swedish authorities condemned the attack and highlighted the need for Iraqi authorities to protect diplomatic missions.

Thursday’s demonstration was by the supporters of Shi’ite cleric Muqtada Sadr to protest the second planned Quran burning in Sweden.

Swedish police granted an application for a public meeting outside the Iraqi embassy in Stockholm on Thursday, reported a Swedish news agency.
