Mohanlal Resigns As Malayalam Movie Artist Body Chief, Panel Dissolved, Amid Sexual Assault Allegations

Thiruvananthapuram: Veteran actor Mohanlal quit the post of President of the Association of Malayalam Movie Actors (AMMA) amid allegations of sexual assault and rape against some of Mollywood’s big-shots including actor Siddique and filmmaker Ranjith Balakrishnan.

AMMA’s executive committee members have resigned. According to a statement from AMMA, an election to form a new committee will be held within two months. In the statement, AMMA has taken “moral responsibility” and dissolved itself “in light of allegations made by some actors against some of the committee”.

Following the public release of the Justice Hema Committee report a week back, several senior members of the Malayalam film industry are now facing sexual abuse complaints. The report includes several shocking stories of abuse of women in the Malayalam film industry. This report was submitted to the Kerala government in 2019.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has announced a seven-member SIT to probe all sexual assault charges.
