Monsoon Starts Departing from India, 8 Days After Normal Date

New Delhi: Monsoon started withdrawing from India on Monday. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this year, the return of monsoon has been delayed by eight days. The normal date for withdrawal of monsoon is September 17.

“(The) southwest monsoon has withdrawn from parts of southwest Rajasthan today, September 25, 2023, against its normal date of withdrawal from southwest Rajasthan of September 17,” stated an IMD statement.

The late retreat of the monsoon this year is the 13th consecutive delayed withdrawal. Any delay in the monsoon’s retreat means a longer rainy season, which can significantly impact in Rabi crop production.

The monsoon usually starts retreating from northwest India around September 17, withdrawing entirely by October 15.
