Neeraj Chopra Secures 2024 Paris Olympics Spot, Advances to World Championships Final with 88.7m Throw

Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra secured his spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics and advanced to the final of the World Championships with an impressive throw of 88.77m on Friday.

The 25-year-old athlete achieved his season’s best and fourth career-best distance in his very first attempt, meeting the 2024 Olympics qualifying mark of 85.50m.

Chopra’s throw was the farthest in Group A qualification, and he did not need to make any further attempts. He is the only Indian athlete to have qualified for the final of the World Championships.

The qualifying round for the Paris Olympics required a throw of 83m, or the top 12 performers from both Group A and B would make it to the final round, scheduled for Sunday.

Chopra is the reigning Olympic champion, having won gold in Tokyo in 2021. He is also the current world record holder among junior athletes.
