Asian Games 2023: Neeraj Chopra Clinches Gold, Odisha’s Kishore Jena Bags Silver in Men’s Javelin Throw

Hangzhou: In a thrilling javelin final at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, India showcased its dominance in the sport. Neeraj Chopra successfully defended his javelin crown, while emerging talent from Odisha, Kishore Jena secured the silver medal. This remarkable achievement came on the heels of Annu Rani’s gold medal win in the women’s javelin event.

Kishore Jena, who had previously impressed in his maiden World Championships appearance earlier in the year, posed a formidable challenge to the Olympic and world champion, Neeraj Chopra, during the final on October 4th.

At the halfway mark of the men’s javelin final, Kishore Jena surged ahead with a personal best throw of 87.54 meters, momentarily leading the competition. This spirited performance was met with cheers from Neeraj, who was not only a competitor but also a supportive teammate. Neeraj’s genuine happiness for Jena’s achievement added a heartwarming touch to the event.

However, Neeraj Chopra remained focused on his ultimate goal. With a sensational season-best throw of 88.88 meters, he successfully defended his Asian Games crown. This impressive performance solidified his position as the champion.

Dean Genki Roderick from Japan secured the bronze medal in the men’s javelin final, with a best throw of 82.68 meters.
