NIPAH Virus Cases Rise to 6 in Kerala, Restrictions Tightened in Kozhikode Dist

Thiruvananthapuram: One more person tested positive for the Nipah virus in Kerala. With it, the total number of detected NIPAH virus cases rose to six, said the state health ministry on Friday.

The latest NIPAH virus-infected person was a 39-year-old who was under observation in a hospital.

Two people have succumbed to the deadly virus in Kerala, while four are under treatment.

Restrictions have been tightened in Kozhikode district where all the cases have been reported. Schools and other educational institutions are shut in the district. Entry to parks and beaches has also been banned in Kozhokode. Prayer gatherings at religious institutions and other public programmes are also prohibited.

Tapping and sale of toddy has been banned. Containment zones continue in 53 wards in nine panchayats of the district.
