Ripples in Bihar Assembly as Nitish Kumar’s NDA Return Sparks Opening Strike Against RJD

Patna: Nitish Kumar has transitioned to the NDA alliance and assumed the role of Chief Minister for the ninth time. Following this move, several leaders from the BJP-led coalition, including Nand Kishore Yadav and Tarkishore Prasad, have submitted a no-confidence motion against Assembly Speaker Awadh Bihari Choudhary, who belongs to the RJD.

The motion, supported by leaders like Jitan Ram Manjhi, Vinay Kumar Choudhary, and Ratnesh Sada, aims to remove Choudhary from the position. Nitish Kumar’s departure from the Mahagathbandhan, comprising the RJD and Congress, comes after days of uncertainty, solidifying the NDA’s position with 128 MLAs, six more than the majority mark.

Notably, Nitish Kumar had joined the Mahagathbandhan in August 2022, parting ways with the BJP, citing attempts to divide his party. In the current scenario, the NDA holds a majority with 128 MLAs, while the Mahagathbandhan has 114 MLAs in the 243-seat Bihar assembly. The RJD leads with 79 MLAs, followed by the BJP with 78, JD(U) with 45, and Congress with 19. The Left parties contribute 16 MLAs, HAM and AIMIM have four and one, respectively, and one independent MLA completes the composition of the House.
