Odisha Chess Icon Padmini Rout Ties the Knot in Grand Ceremony

Bhubaneswar: Renowned chess player Padmini Rout, hailing from Odisha, exchanged vows with Jaikishin Mankani of Mumbai in a traditional Vedic ceremony held at a hotel in the capital city. The groom, Mankani is an IT professional.

The nuptial event was graced by several prominent chess stars from different parts of the country, adding to the celebration.

At the age of 30, Padmini boasts impressive credentials, holding the titles of International Master (IM) and Woman Grandmaster in chess. Notably, she clinched the National Women’s Premier title four times between 2014 and 2017 and in 2018, she secured the Asian women’s champion title.

Having initiated her chess journey at a young age, Padmini has actively represented the Indian National Team in prestigious events such as the Women’s Chess Olympiad, Women’s World Team Chess Championship and Women’s Asian Team Chess Championship.

In addition to her sporting achievements, Padmini, a commerce graduate, was honoured with the Biju Patnaik Sports Award in 2007.
