Odisha CM Inaugurates LAccMi Scheme for Bus Service in Rural Regions

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the Location Accessible Multimodal Initiative (LAccMI) scheme in Malkangiri district on Thursday.

In the first phase, this innovating public transport scheme of Odisha government is being started six districts– Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Kalahandi, and Gajapati. The aim of the scheme is to provide bus service in rural areas of the state.

Under this scheme, the State Government with an allocated budget of Rs 3,178 crore will operate 1000 buses in the rural areas across the state.

The buses will run from panchayats to block headquarters and from block headquarters to district headquarters.

The state government will deploy two buses in each block, with a total of 55 bus stands already constructed and plans to build 70 more.

The LAccMI scheme is a significant step by the Odisha government to improve communication and connectivity in rural areas. It aims to enhance accessibility and promote socio-economic development in the selected districts.

The implementation of the scheme will be facilitated by the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC). To manage the bus stands, women self-help groups (SHGs) under the Mission Shakti department will be involved.
