Odisha Govt Extends Free Rice Scheme for Another 5 Yrs, To Spend Rs 1250 Cr

Bhubaneswar: The Naveen Patnaik-led Odisha government announced on Friday that the beneficiaries under the State Food Security Scheme (SFSS) will continue to get free rice of 5 kg per person every month for another five years.

For the continuation of this free rice scheme, the Odisha government will spend Rs 250 crore per year from its own funds, stated a release of the Odisha CMO.

The SFSS covers a total of 9,97,055 people from 3,14,923 families in the state. They are entitled to get 5 kg of rice per month for free.

“By extending the duration of the scheme for another 5 years, these beneficiaries will get this benefit from January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2028,” the CMO release added.

The CM has given strict instructions to ensure that no poor person in the state is deprived of food security.
