Odisha Govt to Offer Free Tea to Night Time Drivers on Highways to Reduce Accidents

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to provide free tea to drivers of vehicles during the night on highways in the state, to reduce accidents by increasing the alertness of drivers.

Informing this innovative move, the State Transport Minister Tukuni Sahu said the drivers would be offered free tea at selected roadside dhabas and eateries during nighttime. The drivers will also be provided basic facilities to take rest.

District Collectors will identify roadside eateries that will serve free tea to drivers at night. It is felt that free tea cups will reduce drowsiness-related accidents at night.

The regional transport offices (RTOs) will arrange for this free tea endeavor during the Road Safety Week observation from January 1 to 7.

The RTOs have also been directed to hold health camps near roadside petrol pumps, hotels for free eye check-up of drivers.
