France’s President Emmanuel Macron appointed 34-year-old Education Minister Gabriel Attal as his new prime minister on Tuesday. He will be France’s youngest prime minister and the first to be openly gay.
Attal is a close associate of Macron, who became famous as a government spokesman during the COVID pandemic. He will replace outgoing Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, RTL radio and BFM TV said.
Attal has made a name for himself as a savvy minister.
An interesting fact is that Attal and Macron would have a combined age just below that of Joe Biden, who is running for a second mandate in this year’s US presidential election.
