Legendary Singer Yesudas Turns 84

Legendary singer K.J.Yesudas turned 84 on Wednesday. As he is in the US, he could not visit the Kollur Mookambika temple in Mangalore in Karnataka on his birthday to offer a musical tribute. For the past four decades, he and his family have arrived at the temple on his birthday and sing hymns.

In his long musical career of over six decades, Yesudas has recorded over 80,000 songs in over 14 languages. He has sung in Arabic, Latin and Russian.

Yesudas has received eight national awards and a record 25 state awards. He has been honoured with the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan.

Apart from his songs, Yesudas is also well known for his traditional attire of a white kurta and a white dhoti.
