Plane’s Technical Snag Delays Canada PM’s Departure from Delhi

New Delhi: Technical problem in the plane compelled Canadian PM Justin Trudeau to stay back in India hours after he faced criticism From PM Modi for anti-India Khalistani activities in Canada.

Relations between the two countries seemed tense over the issue as Justin Trudeau and PM Modi did not hold any formal bilateral meeting at the G20 summit.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau could not leave Delhi on Sunday because his flight faced a technical snag. According to reports, the Canadian delegation that came to attend the G20 Summit will stay in India till the engineering team on the ground rectifies the issue.

Justin Trudeau arrived in Delhi on September 8, the eve of the G20 Summit, along with his son Xavier.

On Sunday, he had a pull-aside meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said PM Modi conveyed “strong concerns about continuing anti-India activities of extremist elements in Canada”.

At a press briefing after the meeting, Trudeau said, Canada would “always defend freedom of expression, freedom of conscience, and freedom of peaceful protest”.
