Pramila Mallik Files Nomination, To Become 1st Woman Speaker of Odisha Assembly

Bhubaneswar: Senior BJD leader and former Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Pramila Mallik filed her nomination papers for the post of Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly.

The six-time MLA representing the Binjharpur assembly seat resigned from the state cabinet to file her nomination for the post of Odisha Legislative Assembly’s Speaker.

She is all set to become the Speaker as the BJD has comfortable majority in the state Assembly.

With this win, she will become the first woman Speaker of the Odisha Assembly.

The election for the post of Speaker will be held on September 22. It is likely that she will be elected uncontested.

After getting elected, she will take over the charge of the Speaker’s post, and will preside over the Monsoon Session of the Odisha Assembly scheduled to begin on Friday.

Meanwhile, School and Mass Education Minister Sudam Marndi has been given the additional charge of the Revenue and Disaster Management Department.
