Private Buses on Strike In Baripada Protesting Against Assault On Bus Owner

Baripada: Private buses stopped plying in Baripada town of Mayurbhanj district as part of a strike call given by the Mayurbhanj Bus Owners’ Association in protest against the alleged attack on a bus owner and others at the Baripada bus stand on Friday night.

At least five persons including a bus owner were seriously injured in a violent group clash over the route permit and running time of a private bus at Baripada bus stand on Friday night. Sharp weapons were used during the clash.

Three of the five injured were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as their conditions were critical. The president of the Mayurbhanj Bus Owners’ Association, threatened to continue the strike till the arrest of miscreants who assaulted a bus owner and his aides.

This sudden strike by the private bus owners affected the commoners.

Meanwhile, Baripada Town police have detained 10 persons from both groups in relation to the violent clash.
