Pro-China Party of Prez Muizzu Sweeps Parliamentary Polls in Maldives

The pro-China People’s National Congress (PNC) of Maldives’s China lenient President Mohamed Muizzu won the Parliamentary elections with an absolute majority.

The poll results declared on Sunday for the 93-member House showed that Muizzu’s party bagged 66 out of the 86 seats that were declared.

The landslide win for Muizzu’s party implies that the people are backing Muizzu’s pro-China stance, rather than enhancing relations with India.

President Muizzu, who was elected last September, had pledged to do away with the country’s “India First” policy.

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) which is pro-India could get only around a dozen seats.
