Race for Moon: Russia launches Lunar Mission after 50 Yrs

Russia launched its first probe to the Moon since 1956 on Friday.

The rocket with the Luna-25 probe lifted off at 02:10 am Moscow time (2310 GMT Thursday) from the Vostochny Cosmodrome.

The spacecraft will reach lunar orbit in five days. It will then spend between three and seven days to choose the right spot before landing in the lunar south pole area. India’s Chandrayaan 3 is also on the way to the same region of the moon.

Roscosmos expects the probe to land on the Moon around August 21.

Roscomos will remain on the Moon for a year to collect samples and make scientific research.
