Raghubar Das Sworn In as 26th Governor of Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Raghubar Das, the former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, was sworn in as the new Governor of Odisha on October 31. The oath of office was administered by Dr. Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi, Acting Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court, at Raj Bhawan, Bhubaneswar.

Before assuming his role as Governor, Das offered prayers at the Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar and the Jagannath Temple in Puri. He was appointed as the Governor of Odisha by President Droupadi Murmu on October 18, replacing Professor Ganeshi Lal, whose five-year tenure ended in May this year.

Das began his political career in 1977 with the Janata Party but later became a founding member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 1980. He was elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 1995 and continued to win the seat five times. He served as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand from 2014 to 2019 and briefly held the position of Deputy Chief Minister of Jharkhand from 2009-2010.

In the 2019 Assembly Elections, Das was defeated but was later appointed as the national vice-president of the BJP.
