Red Fort Shut as Farmers’ March Towards Delhi Intensifies

New Delhi: Tensions simmer around the national capital as farmers intensify their protests demanding a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their crops. The iconic Red Fort stands shrouded behind barricades, echoing memories of the 2021 Republic Day violence. Meanwhile, clashes erupted at the Shambhu border between Punjab and Haryana, where tear gas was deployed to disperse agitating farmers.

The Red Fort closure recalls the chaotic events of January 26, 2021, when farmers breached barricades, leading to clashes with security forces. This time, authorities are leaving no room for chance, securing the monument with a fortified perimeter.

The crucial Shambhu border witnessed a tense standoff as farmers defied restrictions on their “Delhi Chalo” march. Visuals depict plumes of tear gas obstructing visibility, forcing hundreds to flee the scene.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha remain undeterred despite agreements reached with the government in the past. They demand the enactment of an MSP law, repeal of the Electricity Act 2020, compensation for Lakhimpur Kheri victims, and withdrawal of cases against protestors.

Farmers allege the government has failed to fulfil promises made two years ago, fueling their continued agitation. Their march towards Delhi aims to exert pressure and secure concrete action on their demands.
