₹1.67 Crore ATM Van Loot Case Cracked: Staffers, Mastermind Among 7 Arrested

Cuttack: Cuttack Rural Police have cracked the case of a sensational ATM cash van robbery, arresting seven individuals, including the mastermind Kalim Khan. The heist, which occurred under Tigiria Police limits in Cuttack district last November, involved the loot of over Rs 1.67 crore.

According to Cuttack Rural SP Mihir Panda, the investigation revealed that an insider from the cash van team, along with another individual from a separate vehicle, provided crucial information to Khan about the route and operational details. Khan then orchestrated the crime, enlisting the help of accomplices.

During a media briefing, SP Panda disclosed that the police have recovered more than Rs 64 lakh in cash, along with two-wheelers, sharp weapons, and other evidence related to the crime. The investigation is still on, with the possibility of further arrests.

The criminals executed a meticulously planned operation, utilizing various vehicles and personnel to monitor police movements and ensure the success of their plan. Despite encountering timing issues during previous attempts, they managed to carry out the heist effectively.

Panda highlighted the significant role played by the cash van staff, who shared critical information with the criminals, including the malfunctioning CCTV system and the absence of security measures like chains on the cash trunk. These employees, driven by significant losses in online gambling, collaborated with the criminals to recoup their losses.

In response to the crime, Cuttack Rural Police have identified all individuals involved in the conspiracy and are working towards their apprehension. Panda assured that further arrests are imminent as the investigation progresses.
