24-Yr-Old Farmer Dies From Alleged ‘Bullet Injury’ Amid Violence at Haryana Border

A 24-year-old farmer tragically succumbed to what appears to be a bullet injury this evening amidst escalating tensions at the Shambhu and Khanauri barriers along the Punjab-Haryana border. Farmers’ group AIKS (All-India Kisan Sabha) alleged he died during the police action.

H.S. Rekhi, the medical superintendent at Rajindra Hospital, confirmed the farmer’s death, indicating a bullet injury as the likely cause, pending autopsy results. Originating from Ballo village in Bathinda, the deceased was participating in protests at the Khanauri site before being rushed to the hospital.

Haryana police reported that farmers had ignited kindling mixed with chilli powder, resulting in serious injuries to 12 personnel. Farmer leaders Sarwan Pandher and Jagjit Singh Dallewal reaffirmed their intent to march to Delhi despite the invitation for talks from the centre, citing ongoing confrontations with security forces.

The situation remains tense as farmers aim to resume their ‘Delhi Chalo’ march, defying Punjab Police directives to prevent heavy vehicles from reaching border areas.

The Union government, through Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda, has extended an invitation for a fifth round of talks, expressing readiness to address MSP demands, crop diversification, and stubble-burning issues. Munda urged farmers to maintain peace amid the escalating tensions.

The fate of the march hinges on whether farmer leaders accept the government’s invitation for talks or proceed with their planned route to Delhi, following the inconclusive fourth round of discussions.
