Rourkela Diarrhoea Deaths Reach 6, Rapid Action Teams Deployed

Rourkela: Deaths due to a recent outbreak of diarrhoea in Rourkela have reached six, while 20 patients are in serious condition.

Six Rapid Action teams have been deployed by the Health Department in the steel city to deal with diarrhoea cases. These mobile medical units are involved in the awareness drive and treatment of new patients. They are sending seriously ill patients to the hospital. To strengthen the treatment facility, four faculty members from Sundargarh Hospital, four junior doctors from the CDMO, 12 staff nurses and two technicians have been deputed to the Steel City.

The Sundargarh District Collector has directed the WATCO to increase the amount of chlorine in the drinking water supply to curb the menace of this water-borne disease.

As per the official report, at least 595 persons in Rourkela have been affected by diarrhoea. Out of them, 343 patients were admitted to hospitals, and 145 patients have been cured and discharged. At present 162 patients are under treatment. Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) has 102 diarrhoea patients admitted.
