Case Filed Against Shakib Al Hasan For Alleged Murder During Bangladesh Unrest

Dhaka: Bangladesh cricket star Shakib Al Hasan has been implicated in a murder case, according to a report by the Dhaka Tribune.

One Rafiqul Islam filed the case after his son, Rubel, was shot dead during protests on August 7. Rubel was part of a rally on Ring Road in Adabor when he sustained gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries the same day.

The case, filed at Adabor police station in Dhaka, lists Shakib as the 28th accused. Also named in the case is popular Bangladeshi actor Ferdous Ahmed, who is the 55th accused. Both Shakib and Ferdous are former MPs of the Awami League.

Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is among the 154 others accused in the case, along with 400-500 unidentified individuals, according to the report.

More than 450 people have died in the ongoing student-led protests that ultimately led to Hasina’s resignation on August 5.
