Strict Ban on Polythene Use in Sri Jagannath Temple in Puri from January

Puri: From January 1, 2024, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) will strictly impose restrictions on the usage of polythene and plastic items on the premises of the temple.

Devotees visiting the temple will have to carry puja materials like flowers and bhogs in paper or cotton bags, bhogei, small bamboo containers, and small wooden baskets inside the temple.

The SJTA chief administrator Ranjan Das has requested all ‘sevayat nijogs’ and devotees to stop using polythene and plastic items within the temple. He advised the use paper bags, cotton bags, vegetative materials, leaves, small bamboo, cane and wooden baskets instead.

The SJTA wants to make Jagananth temple premises clean of polythene waste.

It may be noted the SJTA is making efforts to make Srimandir free from polythene use since 2020.
