2 Women Rescued Walking Naked on Sundargarh Road, Disclose Disturbing Sexual Assault Ordeal

Sudargarh: A woman and her daughter, who were found walking naked on a busy road in Sundargarh town, have been identified. The duo, along with the woman’s two other daughters, revealed that they had been repeatedly sexually assaulted by a youth.

The victims hail from Khaibahal village in neighbouring Jharkhand. The mentally disturbed middle-aged woman provided her name when asked. However, it remains unclear how they ended up on College Road in Sundargarh, where they were rescued by BJP MLA Kusum Tete.

The incident occurred on College Road, a heavily trafficked area, with numerous onlookers who failed to offer assistance. MLA Kusum Tete noticed the distressed women while crossing the Ib River bridge and immediately came to their aid.

The rescued mother-daughter duo has been placed in an Astha Gruha, a shelter for mentally ill women, under the care of secretary Snehalata Patel. At the time of their rescue, they were unable to communicate. While the daughter is still mute, the woman has shown some improvement after receiving medical treatment.

The rape survivor disclosed that a youth named Sunil from Khaibahal village had been forcibly assaulting their family for several days. Sundargarh SP Pratyush Diwaker has initiated an investigation into the matter, with the statement of the middle-aged woman recorded by a team of Sadar police.

MLA Kusum Tete, en route to a tribal women’s gathering at the District Collector’s office, stopped to assist the two naked women. She covered them with a cloth and subsequently arranged for their transfer to Astha Gruha, notifying the local police of the incident.
