Rourkela: CBI Nabs Senior GST Officer Red-Handed in Bribery Sting

Sundargarh: In a major bust exposing corruption within the tax system, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended a senior Goods and Services Tax (GST) officer in Sundargarh district’s Rourkela on Thursday. The officer, identified as Amar Kant Kumar, was caught red-handed accepting a bribe from a contractor.

According to reliable sources, Kumar allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 from the contractor to expedite the processing of a specific file. The contractor, unwilling to be extorted, bravely approached the CBI and lodged a complaint.

Acting swiftly, CBI officials devised a plan to catch Kumar in the act. The contractor, complying with the strategy, visited the GST office at Civil Township in Rourkela on Thursday and handed the first installment of Rs 20,000 to Kumar.

As Kumar accepted the bribe, CBI officials intervened, storming into the room and apprehending him red-handed. Despite the significant development, no official responses have been issued by either the CBI or the GST Commissioner at the time of reporting.
