Superstitious Assailants Hack Tribal Woman to Death Alleging Sorcery Practice in Keonjhar Dist

Keonjhar: A tribal woman was allegedly hacked to death by superstitious assailants at Nialijharan village under Ghashipura police station limits in Keonjhar district on Sunday night. The attackers reportedly suspected her to be practising sorcery.

The deceased identified as Salke Hembram faced the lethal attack while she was at her home along with her mother-in-law Sumi Hembram on Sunday night. The others of the family were at a community feast.

Some unidentified persons entered their house and dragged away Salke. She was later hacked to death.

Due to fear, none of her in-laws as well as her husband reported the murder to the police. Her brother Ghanashyam from Khadupada village lodged a police complaint regarding it, at the Ghashipura police about the brutal incident.

A police team led by Anandapur SDPO has reached the village for an investigation.

The villagers are mum regarding the murder. It hints that the woman may have been murdered on the suspicion of practicing sorcery and the superstitious villagers were blaming the woman for it.
