Supreme Court Questions ED Over Delay in Probe in Delhi Excise Policy Case Involving Kejriwal

New Delhi: A bench of the Supreme Court on Tuesday questioned the Enforcement Directorate (ED) over the “delay” in its investigation into the excise policy-linked money laundering case involving Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

The apex court ordered the ED to furnish case files before the arrest of the AAP leader as well as the case files before and after the arrest of Delhi’s former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia.

The Supreme Court bench was hearing Kejriwal’s plea challenging his arrest by the ED.

The apex court noted that the ED has taken two years to unearth something and asked why relevant direct questions were not put to witnesses and accused in the case.

Kejriwal was arrested on March 21. He is lodged in Tihar Jail under judicial custody. On April 9, the Delhi High Court had upheld Kejriwal’s arrest.

The Supreme Court had issued a notice to the ED on April 15 seeking its response to Kejriwal’s plea against his arrest.
