SC Rebukes Telangana CM Revanth Reddy for Objectionable Remarks on K Kavitha’s Bail

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday expressed strong disapproval of Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s comments concerning the bail granted to BRS leader K. Kavitha in connection with the Delhi excise policy scam.

The top court, visibly irked by Reddy’s suggestion of a possible deal between the BJP and BRS to secure Kavitha’s bail, warned that such statements could sow doubts among the public. “What kind of statement is this from a responsible chief minister? This might create unnecessary apprehension in people’s minds. Is this how a constitutional functionary should speak?” questioned the three-judge bench led by Justice B. R. Gavai.

“Why involve the court in political rivalries? We make decisions based on our conscience and oath, not political influence,” the bench further stated. The court’s remarks were directed at senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, representing Reddy.

On Tuesday, Reddy, in an interaction with the media, had questioned the circumstances under which MLC Kavitha received bail within five months, contrasting it with the prolonged incarceration of Manish Sisodia and the pending bail of Arvind Kejriwal. He alleged a possible deal between BRS and BJP.

The Supreme Court was hearing a plea seeking to transfer the trial of the 2015 cash-for-vote scam, in which Reddy is accused, from Telangana to Bhopal.
