Suspected Kuki Militants Kill One Security Personnel in Manipur’s Moreh

Imphal: A personnel of the Manipur state police was killed during an attack by suspected Kuki militants on a security forces vehicle in the border town of Moreh in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district on Wednesday morning.

The deceased was identified as an IRB personnel named Wangkhem Somorjit. Exchanges of fire between the security forces with suspected Kuki militants occurred at three different locations in Moreh town on Wednesday morning.

The militants attacked with bombs and gunshots on a post of security forces near SBI Moreh which was retaliated by the security forces. The militants had also fired RPG shells at the temporary commando post damaging several vehicles.

The suspected Kuki militants fired at the security forces post, 48 hours after two suspects in the killing of a police officer were arrested by state forces in the border town, police said.

Moreh-based civil bodies including Kuki Inpi Tengnoupal (KIT) had vehemently condemned the arrest and demanded unconditional release of the two within 24 hours. KIT had also warned of serious repercussions if the two are not released.
