Team India’s Former Cricketer, Coach Anshuman Gaekwad Dies of Cancer at 71

Former India cricketer Anshuman Gaekwad passed away on Wednesday after a long battle with cancer at the age of 71.

He played 40 Tests and 15 ODIs for India.

He was also the coach of the Indian team that was runners-up at the 2000 ICC Champions Trophy.

Gaekwad was undergoing treatment for blood cancer at the King’s College Hospital in London. He had returned back to India a month back.

The members of the 1983 World Cup-winning team helped in the treatment of Gaekwad. The BCCI also gave Rs 1 crore for his treatment.  Gaekwad has also played 205 first-class matches in a career spanning 22 years.

“Shri Anshuman Gaekwad Ji will be remembered for his contribution to cricket. He was a gifted player and an outstanding coach. Pained by his demise. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti,” wrote PM Modi on X.
