Telangana Assembly Passes Bill to Ban Hookah Parlours

Hyderabad: The Telangana Legislative Assembly passed a Bill banning hookah parlours in the state on Monday.

The Bill was passed unanimously. The cigarette and other tobacco products (prohibition of advertisement and regulation of trade and commerce, production, supply and distribution) (Telangana Amendment) Bill, 2024 was passed by the Telangana Assembly unanimously without discussion.

State Legislative Affairs Minister D Sridhar Babu, who moved the bill said, that smoking hookah is more harmful than smoking cigarettes and it makes the smokers take toxic substances.

It also causes harm to passive smokers and hookah parlours pose a health hazard in public places, he added.

Therefore, the Telangana government decided to take tough measures like banning hookah bars.
