Ragging of 1st Yr MBBS Student Reported from MKCG Medical College, Berhampur

Berhampur: An incident of ragging has come to the fore from the MKCG Medical College in Berhampur of Odisha.

According to reports, Rudra Rout, a first-year MBBS student from Balasore studying in the institute was allegedly physically assaulted by his seniors. The incident occurred on February 9. The victim was allegedly beaten up by two senior students.

The father of the victim MBBS student has registered a complaint at the Baidyanathpur police station in Berhampur regarding the alleged ragging faced by his son.

The victim second year MBBS student was staying in the gents’ hostel of the medical college. He was allegedly beaten up by two seniors at around 11 pm on Feb 9 night, while he was returning to the hostel from band rehearsals. According to the police complaint, Stalin Mahapatra and Jyoti Prakash Rout, two fourth-year students, assaulted him without any reason.
Baidhyanathpur PS case number 96 us 341/323/325/34 IPC was registered against the two 4th year MKCG students mentioned above on 11 Feb 2024.

The victim sustained injuries on the face and neck. The family members of the victim drew the attention of the MKCG medical college authorities, Berhampur SP and other officials through a social media post on X.

The principal of the MKCG Medical College, Prof Santosh Mishra confirmed that a second-year student has reported the matter to the anti-ragging cell. The anti-ragging cell of the institute has launched an inquiry and necessary action will be initiated following the report from the cell.
