TMC’s Derek O’Brien Attends Rajya Sabha as Suspension Motion Not Put to Vote

New Delhi: TMC MP Derek O’Brien’s suspension became a high drama in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. The Chairman first announced that O’Brien was suspended from the House. But later he said the motion to suspend him was not put to vote and hence, he could continue to attend the proceedings.

O’Brien was allowed to attend the House proceedings after Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar said he has taken a “far-sighted” decision to not allow voting on the motion to suspend him which did not fructify.

Initially, the chairman of the Rajya Sabha announced that the TMC leader Derek O’Brien has been suspended from the Rajya Sabha for the remaining part of the Monsoon Session. Later he put the decision on hold saying he had not “taken the sense of the House” on the issue.

As soon as the House met at noon after the adjournment, Congress leader Pramod Tiwari requested Dhankhar to refrain from taking “extreme steps” and reconsider his decision.
