Zomato to Levy Platform Fee Per Order; How Will It Affect Your Bill?

New Delhi: Food delivery platform, Zomato is testing a new platform fee of Rs 2 per order in select markets. This fee is applicable to all users, including Zomato Gold members, and aims to explore profitability avenues while enhancing the user experience. The company will evaluate the trial results and user feedback to decide on its long-term implementation.

Zomato’s recent move comes as the company aims to improve its profitability. Despite reporting a consolidated profit of Rs 2 crore in the April-June quarter, total expenses surged from Rs 1,768 crore to Rs 2,612 crore. The platform fee trial is part of Zomato’s effort to address this issue and reduce expenses.

Akshant Goyal, Zomato’s CFO, had previously mentioned that the implementation of platform fees was yet to be decided. However, the company has now initiated the trial period, starting with the nominal Rs 2 fee per order.

Zomato, founded in 2008 by Deepinder Goyal and Pankaj Chaddah, has evolved into a technology platform connecting customers, restaurant partners, and delivery partners. It provides comprehensive services, such as restaurant information, customer reviews, online food ordering, table reservations, and payment options.

As the platform fee trial progresses, Zomato aims to achieve further milestones in its journey towards profitability. The company’s performance in this period will determine the future scaling of the fee structure. Users and stakeholders will play a vital role in shaping the outcome through their valuable feedback.
