Truck Owners Observe Bandh in Keonjhar Opposing Railway Project

Keonjhar: A 24-hour bandh call by the Keonjhar Truck Owners Association affected the normal life in Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Monday.

Around 15 transport associations, including the local bus owners and merchants’ associations, have extended support to this bandh call.

Through this bandh, the truck owners are protesting against the proposed railway track project envisioned to connect the OMC mines in Keonjhar Suakati to Gohaldihi railway siding.

The supporters of the bandh also resorted to rail-roko by sitting on the railway tracks in Keonjhar.

According to the truck owners, this proposed railway project will hit the truck services in the region and their source of livelihood of people linked to it severely.

All business establishments and educational institutions in Keonjhar district remained closed because of the bandh call. Public transport remained stalled.

Adequate police force have been deployed at strategic locations to avoid any untoward incident during the bandh.
