Two Killed, Three Injured in Fresh Violence in Manipur

Imphal: Two persons were shot dead, and three others sustained bullet injuries when fresh violence erupted near Kadangband village in the Lamshang area on the border of Imphal West in Manipur on Tuesday. According to police sources, some unknown armed miscreants opened fire at a camp.

The deceased were two village volunteers, identified as Nongthombam Micheal (33) and Meisnam Khaba (23). The camp volunteers retaliated and a gunfight erupted between the two groups.

“Two individuals were killed in a firing incident between armed miscreants in the bordering area of Kangpokpi and Imphal West districts,” the Manipur Police Control Room said in a statement.

Following this incident of violence, several people, including women and children, in Kadangband and neighbouring Koutruk village fled to safer locations.

Additional security personnel were rushed to the area to bring the situation under control.

Since May 2023, the ethnic clashes in Manipur have claimed over 180 lives.
