UPSC to Deploy AI-Powered CCTV, Facial Recognition to Prevent Cheating

New Delhi: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is set to enhance exam security with the introduction of advanced surveillance technology.

In a bid to curb rampant cheating and impersonation, the commission has invited bids for the development of facial recognition and AI-powered CCTV systems.

According to the tender, the proposed system will integrate Aadhaar-based fingerprint authentication, facial recognition, and QR code scanning of admit cards. Additionally, AI-enabled CCTV cameras will be installed in all exam centers to monitor candidates and staff in real-time.

The AI surveillance system is designed to detect anomalies such as unauthorized entry, improper seating arrangements, camera tampering, and suspicious activities. It will also flag potential instances of cheating and invigilator negligence, enabling swift intervention.

The move comes amidst growing concerns over exam integrity, highlighted by the ongoing investigation into the alleged irregularities in the selection of trainee IAS officer Puja Khedkar. The UPSC has cancelled her appointment following allegations of falsifying qualifications and identity.
