Uttarakhand Gurdwara Chief’s Shooter Slain in Police Encounter

New Delhi: Amarjit Singh, the man who shot the dera kar seva chief of the Nanakmatta Sahib Gurdwara in Uttarakhand’s Udham Singh Nagar was killed during an encounter with the Uttarakhand STF and Haridwar Police. More than 16 cases are registered against Amarjit Singh.

Baba Tarsem Singh was shot dead on March 28 on the gurudwara premises by bike riders, Sarabjit Singh and Amarjit Singh. The dera kar seva chief was shot with a rifle by the shooter who was riding pillion.

Uttarakhand DGP Abhinav Kumar told the news agency ANI that Amarjit Singh was dead and search is on to nab his accomplice Sarabjit Singh.

The encounter took place between Kaliyar Road and Bhagwanpur in Haridwar.

The persons named in the FIR of the gurudwara chief’s murder case include the two assailants — Sarabjit Singh and Amarjit Singh — IAS officer Harbans Singh Chugh who heads the Nanakmatta Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, Baba Anup Singh and Pritam Singh Sandhu, the vice-president of a regional Sikh outfit.

A special investigation team (SIT) comprising personnel of the Special Task Force and local police was formed to probe the case.
