Uttarakhand Tunnel Rescue in Last Phases, 12m Pipeline Left to be Laid

New Delhi: The rescue operation to evacuate the 41 labourers stranded in the collapsed under-construction tunnel in Uttarakhand is in last phases. The work of laying the last stretch of a 12-meter pipeline is on at the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarkashi. These workers have been trapped in the collapsed tunnel since November 12, when debris because of a landslide blocked the under-construction tunnel from Silkyara to Barkot.

The work of laying down two pipelines is still left and their length is approximately 12 metres.

Till now through horizontal drilling 44 meters pipeline has been inserted. The horizontal drilling was hampered because of some steel rods in the debris.

Meanwhile, a 41-bed hospital is ready at the Community Health Centre in Chinyalisaur for medical support and care of trapped workers when they are evacuated.

41 workers are trapped in an area measuring 8.5 meters in height and 2 kilometres in length, which is a built-up portion of the tunnel, offering safety to the labourers with available electricity and water supply.
