West Bengal’s Nandigram Tense as BJP Woman Activist Killed

Kolkata: A woman BJP activist was killed in Nandigram in West Bengal’s Purba Medinipur district, two days ahead of the parliamentary polls in the area. This killing sparked off large-scale protests by BJP supporters on Thursday.

BJP supporters burnt tyres, blocked roads and pulled down shutters of shops in Nandigram.

They alleged that the ‘TMC-backed criminals’ were involved in the murder of Rathibala Arhi (38), a BJP worker in Sonachura village.

This area is under the Tamluk Lok Sabha seat, where voting is scheduled to be held on May 25.

According to police sources, Arhi died and several others were injured when unidentified armed bike-borne assailants attacked them late Wednesday night.
